back to the good idea/bad idea thing

I wanted to start the project off with an interactive activity. Basically the activity would try and make the students empathetic of the victims instead of just sympathetic. We care and everyone is bothered and upset by it, but we don't really know how it feels. What I wanted to do was set the class up like a concentration camp splt the class into groups have the tables seem as almost walls and have everyone cram into to see how squished things were, students would have their identifications. In the main camp Aushwitz, they identified victims by numbers that were just tattooed on so I wa sthinkign taking tape and writing numbers on it and having the students where it on their arm (maybe that would be allowed). Some of these ideas may not be allowed in the classroom, so HOW DO I GET MY POINT ACROSS WITHOUT USING WORDS, PICTURES, OR VIDEOS. I'm aiming for a hands on/ interactive activity

  1. I like your idea of making it hands on, but how does what you're trying to show with the activity address your essential question?

  2. This is great, but WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR ESSENTIAL QUESTION? Because you and your partner are not on the same page.

It going to be tremendously difficult for you to do that with no introduction. I think an introduction is necessary for your completion and getting you point across for your this project.

  3. chantlety sherif and I have the same essential questions and Ms. Roy I was thinking the activity would address the key topics and then that could lead me to my big essential question and work from there, or are you looking for getting right to the essential questions?

  4. I love this idea. Depending on your essential question, you could do it in different ways. I like the idea of the number to show how you were not really valued as a person but rather just another number. If you can't do it interactively maybe you should use pictures but of the more touching things to make it more realistic. Maybe you show the babies shoes left behind or something of that nature, sort of the way the Holocaust museum in Washington DC paints the picture of the holocaust for you. Or maybe you could do your project following the life of a victim and apply your essential question to a person using accounts of what happened in real life so the class lives through that character

  5. i think the idea is very good but could be a little better. cramming students in is good and the tape is good but youll only have 10 ish minutes so it may be hard to then do the presentation. i also agree with some of the earlier posts that this doesnt exactly tie into your essential question. you could then discuss how the other nations didnt know that this is what it was like but that may be a bit of a streach.
